Centenary Celebrations – November 2021 to November 2022
Our Scout group was formed on 21 November 1921, so we’re now over 100 years old!

In addition to a number of organised events, we had two very unusual and unexpected ones. The first was when Gavin Newlands (our local Member of the UK Parliament) who attended the Centenary displays and church service, brought our Centenary to the attention of the Parliament (click here for a video of the event); the second unexpected event being that Gavin filed an Early Day Motion (EDM) with the Parliament, congratulating us on our Centenary. The EDM will be a permanent record, so what better way for us to lay down the next 100 years than to have a formal record in Parliament? A copy of the EDM is available here.
Please click this link Centenary Celebrations in Pictures for a selection of pictures taken during the celebrations (we have lots and lots more pictures to upload, so please be patient and visit again).

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in our celebrations. There are so many who gave assistance and supported our events that we can’t list you all, so one large THANK YOU to everyone.
In case you wondered about our Centenary badge, here’s the story behind it:
We had a competition between our young people to organise a Centenary badge – the winning entry is accessible by clicking on Centenary Badge. We had the badge embroidered and distributed it to our youngsters at their Going Up Ceremony which took place when Covid restrictions allowed. We also gave the badge to attendees at our opening events in November.
We had badges left (as we bought considerably more than we needed because we knew we’d find a use for them), so we handmade Christmas baubles which included the badge. The baubles were given to attendees at the last event in November 2022, to all our current members (who were not at the last event) and to former members who were unable to attend in November. What was the thinking behind the baubles? We wanted a gift which included the badge, would be a bit different and brought out annually at the right time of year, so Christmas baubles in November hit the mark as they’ll be put on Christmas trees every year which is just the right time for our incorporation date and commemorations.
